Graham "Gray" Jones is an outstanding film editor and colorist. I hired him after firing a horrendous video editor. Graham "Gray" Jones was the opposite of that other editor. He is fabulous in every way.

Although his legal first name is Graham, he goes by Gray, so that's how I will refer to Mr. Jones in this review.

I hired Gray to do two projects:

  1. Three-minute trailer (see the final below).
  2. 45-minute film for my Kickstarter project (you can buy it in my shop).

I gave him the raw footage and some direction. He did the rest.

In fact, he exceeded my expectations. He made three trailers instead of one!

Here is why I recommend Gray Jones and why I would be happy to hire him again for my next film project. He is:

  • Experienced: Gray has 275 TV and film credits. He's worked as a preditor, editor, colorist, and more.
  • Knowledgable: If you have an obscure question about editing programs or camcorders, Gray will usually know the answer.
  • Patient: Working with me is challenging because I am an amateur. Gray puts up well with your imperfections.
  • Understanding: Gray understands that the editing process involves many iterations. He never complained.
  • Technically astute: Gray knows his editing and coloring software inside out. His knowledge of audio is strong too.
  • Fast: When you're up against a deadline, Gray will work nonstop to make it happen.
  • Outstanding communicator: Gray is extremely responsive. He usually replies to emails in minutes. His writing is clear. When we talked on the phone, he was also excellent. Some of my clips were in French and he showed a good command of the French language thanks to his Canadian upbringing.
  • Reliable: Gray delivered whenever he said he would deliver.
  • Educated: Gray has an honors BFA in Screenwriting and Production from York University, where he graduated with distinction in 1994.
  • Flexible: Filmmaking can be a sloppy process. Gray adapts quickly and without complaint.
  • Multi-talented: We had a small crew. Gray did it all. He was practically the Director!
  • Team player: Gray follows directions, but also gives excellent input and knows how to lead. It's a great balance.
  • Well connected: Gray Jones been a podcaster for many years and has amassed a nice Rolodex.

Gray Jones's Work

Although I can't reveal the 45-minute TV pilot episode, it is amazing.

I found Gray Jones on StaffMeUp.com.

  • He solved technical problems in hours, not months
  • He communicated instantly, clearly, and succinctly
  • He produced an outstanding first cut of the trailer below in just a few days:

Here is the 3-minute trailer he produced (this is the third and final cut):

As a bonus, Gray Jones created a 2-minute version of the trailer for a producer who asked for a shorter version of the trailer:

As another bonus, in just "several hours," Gray Jones cut this much better version of my Kickstarter Pitch video:

Lesson: Hire Gray Jones.

If you are producing an ad, a TV show, or a film, then you will want Gray Jones on your team.

I give Gray Jones my highest recommendation!
