Treking poles and stove recommendations

I never use trekking poles, but I'd recommend the lightest ones you can get. I've already mentioned backpacking without poles. What kind of hiking stick do you recommend? Is it important to have cork or shock absorbers?
Tough call. I have little experience with alcohol, but if you're not in a rush when you cook and you're on a tight budget, then it may be the best option. If you don't like waiting for water to boil while mosquitoes or cold, rainy weather bugs you, then a fuel stove would be best. Also, I saw you used one of the small stoves, do you recommend that over a fuel or alcohol one for 2 people?
I've talked more about this topic elsewhere.
