Treking poles and stove recommendations

Post by FrancisTapon » Fri Feb 19, 2010 7:00 am

What kind of hiking stick do you recommend? Is it important to have cork or shock absorbers?
I never use trekking poles, but I'd recommend the lightest ones you can get. I've already mentioned backpacking without poles.
Also, I saw you used one of the small stoves, do you recommend that over a fuel or alcohol one for 2 people?
Tough call. I have little experience with alcohol, but if you're not in a rush when you cook and you're on a tight budget, then it may be the best option. If you don't like waiting for water to boil while mosquitoes or cold, rainy weather bugs you, then a fuel stove would be best. :)

I've talked more about this topic elsewhere.
