Curious if you read the recent book called Wild, about a young woman who walked part of the PCT ?

Book has become a best seller in the US

Steve, I haven't read it, but I'd like to.

I'll confess that I'm bit baffled that the two best selling books about thru-hiking were written by hikers who did only half of the trail.

1. Cheryl Strayed's Wild is about her 1,100 miles on the PCT.
2. Bill Bryson's Walk in the Woods is about him walking about 42% of the AT.

So the secret to writing a bestseller about CDT will be NOT to yo-yo it, but to walk about half of it. :P

Hi Frances,

I finished reading Bill Brysons 'a walk in the woods' yesterday. After reading the excellent 'a short history of nearly everything' I was disappointed by this- He wimped out!! (sorry Bill) and filled in the rest f the book with 'sandwich filler' history lessons!! I suppose he has such a back catalogue that it was always going to be a hit.
I havent read your book just yet, but i will, Im sure you can conjure the same,or better, dry humour that Bryson employs?!?!

Also this is a chance for me to thank you for the added motivation when I climbed Aneto in the Pyrenees, I would never have tackled something like that without reading your blog beforehand- thank you,

I hope to come to America next year to do one of the big three!

(I wanted to share a picture from Aneto but I'm not computer Savvy enough)

An Irish Blessing instead!

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
Let there be nothing that you lack.

see you on the trail,
Paul.

If you like Bryson's books, then you should start by reading "The Hidden Europe." It's more like a Bryson book than Hike Your Own Hike.

Congrats on doing Aneto! Good luck on your thru-hike!
