Route through the Picos de Europa

Post by Mainehiker » Mon Apr 07, 2014 3:28 am

Hi, So my friend and I want to hike the Camino de Santiago. Both of us are in strong shape, have strong backpacking experience, and love the mountains. Therefore, your of idea of incorporating the picos de europa into the hike really appeals to us. These mountains seem absolutely stunning. What route did you take? What specific problems did you find? Do you think your route will be passable in June? How long did it take to traverse this range? Thanks so much.

What route did you take?
From Burgos, I went north towards El Camino, mostly next to roads, which is basically like El Camino.
Then I entered the park and just followed my instincts to go west. :)

What specific problems did you find?
I couldn't climb the highest peak.
And then I descended into a valley that had no river out of it. It was an unusual situation. See my video.

Do you think your route will be passable in June?
Yes, but there will be some snow, probably.

How long did it take to traverse this range?
2 days for the park + 10 days for the whole Cantabria Range.
